The Emory cross country teams took a trip to Spartanburg, SC for the Converse Kick-off Saturday morning, with the No. 15 ranked women's team taking second with 66 points and the men's team placed fifth with 127 points.
Cameron Gupta and
Ryan Van de Berghe were the top finishers for the Eagles, with Gupta taking seventh with a time of 22:36.8 and Van de Berghe finishing 17
th at 25:23.4.
On the women's side, senior
Elise Picard finished right behind her classmate as she raced a 22:41.6 to place eighth and earn a PB. Fellow senior
Elizabeth Csikai also placed in the top ten as she crossed the finish at 22:51.9 to take tenth. Junior
Davis Johnson came in next for the Eagles, coming in 17
th with a time of 23:06.4. The senior-freshman duo of
Morgan Cox and
Amelia Stratton found themselves in the top 25 as well, with Cox taking 24
th with her time of 23:24.4 to earn a PB while Stratton came in 25
th at 23:26.2.
Ayla Cooke and
Mackenzie Spooner rounded out the top 30 for the Eagles, placing 24
th and 25
th respectively with times over the 23-minute mark.
The men's side saw junior
Dalton Lowery place in the top 25 alongside Van de Berghe, posting a 25:34.3 to take 24
th.
Owen Larson and
Carsen Valenta followed that as they delivered a pair of PBs on the course, with Larson taking 26
th with a time of 25:36.7 while Valenta raced a 25:47.6 to come in 30
th.
Michael Versaci and
Alex Jones rounded out the top 60 for the Eagles, taking 52
nd and 53
rd respectively with times over the 26:10 mark.
The Eagles will be back on the course October 2 as they head to Douglasville, GA for the Georgia Tech Invitational. Â
