Three Emory University Eagles were named University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of May 11-17.
Junior Cameron Gupta recorded a personal-best time in the 3000m Steeplechase last week at the Midwest Twilight Qualifier at Augustana as she qualified for nationals. Gupta took first place in the event out of 21 competitors with a time of 10:37.02, leading her to earn one of the 22 qualifying berths for the NCAA Championships. With her time, Gupta moved to 14th nationally as well as second all-time in Emory history.
Junior Sebastian Kou put together his best performance of the season in the 400m Hurdles at the Midwest Twilight Qualifier as he qualified for the NCAA Championships. Kou ran a personal-best time of 52.72 as finished second in the field of 18 runners. With his time, Kou became one of the 22 entries for nationals.
Freshman Sydney Thune had an excellent end to her season as she threw a combined 14 innings through three games at the Belhaven Regional to led the Eagles to an appearance in the final. In Emory's 1-0 win over Berry, the freshman held the Vikings offense to no runs on one hit while spinning eight strikeouts as she carried a perfect game into the seventh inning. Thune also held Belhaven to four runs on eight hits in Emory's 15-7 win over the Blazers, racking up five strikeouts to claim her 11th win of the season. After strong performances all weekend, she was named to the All-Tournament team for the Jackson Regional.Â
