Four Eagles Selected as UAA Athletes of the Week for March 23-29

Four Emory University student-athletes were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for the week of March 23-29.

Junior Jake Lawson had a torrid weekend at the plate as the Emory baseball offense scored 47 runs across the four games as the Eagles won the series over NYU. Lawson went 11-for-19 at the plate with nine runs scored, drove in nine runs and collected one double and hit three home runs. Lawson had a slash line of .579/.636/1.105 while adding three walks and three stolen bases to his ledger.

Senior Josh Zuckerman turned in a darkness-aided complete game in Emory's series opening win against NYU on Friday as the senior right hander worked eight superb innings as the Eagles won game one 9-1 in 8 innings. Zuckerman allowed just the lone earned run across his eight frames as he improved to 2-2, working around three hits and two walks while striking out eight Violet hitters. Zuckerman retired the final nine NYU hitters he faced and allowed only three to reach base over the final five innings.

Freshman Sydney Thune spun her third complete game of the season in Emory's 8-2 win over Carnegie Mellon on Friday, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five to improve to 4-2 on the year. Thune returned to the circle on Saturday to record her first career save in the series finale, pitching three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Thune allowed only two batters to reach base out of the 11 she faced.

Sophomore Ruilin Feng went 3-0 at No. 1 singles to lead the #12 Emory Eagles to a 2-1 week which included wins over Kalamazoo and #6 Case Western Reserve. Feng dominated at the top position of the singles lineup all week long as he posted straight set results in all three of his victories as we went 6-1, 6-3 vs. KC; 6-1, 6-1 against CWRU's Salazar Garza and 6-0, 6-1 vs. Denison's Green. Feng added a 1-2 mark at No. 1 doubles with his win coming Thursday against Kalamazoo with a 6-2 result alongside Ajay Kartik.
