Madison Teng Reflects on NCAA Division III Immersion Program Experience

The NCAA Division III Immersion Program is an initiative designed to enhance the professional development of students and young professionals aspiring to work in college athletics. Held in conjunction with the NCAA Convention, the program provides participants with an in-depth look at Division III athletics, networking opportunities with key administrators, and insights into career paths within the NCAA.

Madison Teng, a junior on the Emory Women's Soccer team, participated in the program from January 13-16, 2026 in Washington, D.C. This past season, she helped lead the Eagles to the National Championship game. She was named to the 2025 NCAA All-Tournament Team and was also selected as a UAA Athlete of the Week. The program provided Madison an invaluable opportunity to explore the inner workings of collegiate athletics and gain clarity on potential career paths within the industry.

For Teng, one of the most tangible takeaways from the program was discovering a strong interest in sports administration. Through conversations with administrators from across Division III and hearing about their daily responsibilities and passions, it became clear that this field closely aligns with her own strengths and interests. Madison had the opportunity to sit in on a UAA conference meeting further reinforcing this realization, offering a firsthand look at the collaborative decision-making process that drives collegiate athletics. Additionally, learning about the NCAA's legislative process was a standout experience. Observing how policies were discussed, structured, and ultimately decided provides a deeper understanding of the organization's impact on student-athletes and institutions.

According to Madison, the most impactful part of the program was attending the speaker sessions and networking events. "These opportunities allowed me to connect with inspiring professionals and learn about the wide range of career paths available within sports." Two moments that stood out in particular were Will Baggett's keynote address and the leadership panel, both of which were incredibly motivating and insightful. "Hearing personal stories and advice from leaders in the field helped solidify my interest in pursuing a career in athletics."

Although her interest in working in sports is relatively recent, the Immersion Program played a crucial role in shaping Madison's long-term career aspirations. Teng's goal was simply to gain clarity on potential opportunities within sports. Leaving the program, "I feel confident that I am drawn to a role in sports administration, especially one that centers on enhancing the student-athlete experience. The connections I made throughout the program were equally meaningful, and I look forward to maintaining those relationships as I continue exploring a future in collegiate athletics."

Overall, the NCAA Division III Immersion Program was an impactful and affirming experience for the soccer standout that provided both professional insight and personal growth, helping to shape the next steps in her journey within athletics.
