Leah Wang Gains Transformative Insight at NCAA Career in Sports Forum

Emory University student-athlete Leah Wang recently returned from the NCAA Career in Sports Forum with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of the professional pathways available within the sports industry. The annual event, held in Indianapolis, brings together a select group of NCAA student-athletes from across the nation to explore career opportunities in athletics and engage in transformative leadership development programming.

With the support of Emory Athletics and the NCAA's Leadership Development Institute, Wang participated in workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities designed to illuminate the diverse roles available within and adjacent to the world of sports.

"I gained valuable exposure to the breadth of opportunities that exist in the sports industry," said Wang. "I developed a deeper understanding of various career paths, particularly in sport-adjacent roles that operate within a corporate structure. The Forum also emphasized the importance of self-reflection, helping me identify how my values, strengths, and lived experiences can shape the kind of impact I want to have in this field."

One of the most resonant moments from the forum came during sessions where professionals candidly shared their personal career journeys—including the challenges, pivots, and periods of uncertainty that ultimately helped shape their growth.

"Their honesty was both comforting and inspiring," Wang added. "It reminded me that challenges are essential parts of growth, especially in a competitive and evolving industry like sports."

The NCAA Career in Sports Forum aligns closely with Emory Athletics' mission to empower student-athletes to lead lives of meaning and impact well beyond their time in competition. Emory's signature Eagle Edge approach—grounded in leadership development, academic excellence, and real-world exploration—continues to open doors for student-athletes to pursue their passions and carve unique paths in their professional journeys.

"This program reinforced my aspiration to build a career centered on service, impact, and purpose," Wang reflected. "I want to help others, especially through the power of sport, by creating inclusive, empowering environments where people feel seen and supported. The Forum encouraged us to lead with authenticity and reminded me that making a difference doesn't require a perfect plan—just a commitment to growth and meaningful connection."

Through meaningful initiatives like the NCAA Career in Sports Forum, Emory University remains deeply committed to nurturing the personal and professional development of its student-athletes—preparing them not only to compete, but to lead.
