#10 Women's Soccer Bounces Back with 3-0 Win at Guilford

The No. 10 ranked Emory University women's soccer team bounced back in a big way Sunday afternoon, taking down Guilford College, 3-0, on its home turf in Greensboro, North Carolina.

After the Eagles saw their three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, Emory recorded its fourth shutout in five games and handed the Quakers their first loss of the season. Three different Eagles scored as Emory improved to 4-1 while Guilford was scored upon for the first time in five games to fall to 4-1.

Emory dominated possession early and often and finished with a 23-4 advantage in shots and led 16-1 in shots on goal. The Eagles earned 11 corner kicks and did not allow one to the opposition.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Nimmer continued to collect points in EU victories as she scored her third goal of the season, and now has at least one point in each of Emory's four wins this season. At the 22nd minute mark, a pass from classmate Katie Hungness to the middle of the field looked to be intercepted by GC defender. However, the deflection found Nimmer who in turn worked around another GC defender and fired a shot on the ground to the right corner under the dive of the Quakers keeper.

Freshman Emory Bozzuti nearly doubled the EU lead with 12:55 remaining in the half with a header off a corner kick but her attempt hit the right post before being scooped up by the keeper prior to crossing the goal line.

The Eagles finished the first half with a 9-3 edge in shots (8-0 in SOG) and led 1-0.

Nimmer almost secured a brace in the 61st minute in one of Emory's first chances in the second half but a remarkable diving save kept the score the same.

Following a couple more close opportunities for the Eagles, sophomore Madison Teng finally broke through to double the Emory lead at the 73:22 mark. Teng received the ball from senior Claudia Schmidt from around 35 yards out and used her footwork to shift around a defender a fire a shot home from long range. The goal was Teng's first of the season.

After missing on a chance in the first half, Bozzuti would not be denied two minutes after Teng's goal as she cashed in with her first career goal at the 75:38 mark. Sophomore Zia Tomlin ripped a centering pass into the box where Bozzuti was there to head it in. Bozzuti finished the game tied for the team lead with Nimmer at four shots on goal each.

The Eagles travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia Thursday evening to face the Covenant Scots before heading back to North Carolina on Sunday to oppose rival Lynchburg in Charlotte.
