Emory Women's Soccer Edged By Chicago

The No. 13-ranked Emory University women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon as it dropped a hard-fought University Athletic Association decision to the University of Chicago.  The Maroons of UC escaped the Woodruff PE Center with a 1-0 victory, boosting their record to 7-3-1 (2-0 in the University Athletic Association) while the Eagles slipped to 8-1-2 in overall play, 0-1-1 in the UAA.

The game's lone scoring took place at the 72:57 mark when, in a scramble in front of the Emory goal, UC's Claire Mackevicius was able to head a pass to freshman Jovanovic who slipped a shot past Eagles' goalkeeper Kaele Leonard.

Both squads ended the contest with 16 shot attempts with Emory placing eight on goal.  Maroons' keeper Erica Gormley earned the shutout, stonewalling several excellent Emory scoring opportunites including a point-blank shot by senior Emily Rubin at the 67:00 minute mark and direct kick attempt by Merrill Bachouros in the game's waning moments.

Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 12) when it hosts Oglethorpe University in a 5:00 p.m. start.
