Sixth-Ranked Eagles Play #24 Rochester to a 1-1 Tie

The Eagles earned a point in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings on Friday night, as the sixth-ranked Emory women's soccer team played the 24th-ranked University of Rochester to a 1-1 tie at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

After a scoreless first half, freshman Kelly Costopoulos broke through for the first goal of the game in the 59th minute.  The score was the fourth of the season for Costopoulos, who converted the goal off senior Melanie Levy's fourth assist of the campaign.  Levy is now tied for the team lead with 12 points this season.

However, it would not take long for Rochester to knot-up the match, as Yellowjackets junior Ellen Coleman scored her 14th goal of the season just three minutes later to tie the game at a goal apiece.

The Eagles would go on to outshoot the Yellowjackets 20-9 in the second half and overtime periods, and would finish the game with a 28-13 advantage in shots, including a 10-7 lead in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Erica Stein played a scoreless first half for the Eagles, marking her seventh-consecutive scoreless appearance.  Sophomore Kaele Leonard played the second half and both overtime periods in goal, making four saves and earning the tie to bring her record to 8-1-3 this season.

With the tie, Emory and Rochester remained knotted in the UAA standings, each with a 2-1-2 conference record.  The Eagles moved to 12-1-3 overall this season, while Rochester's record went to 10-3-3.

Emory will wrap up its regular season home schedule on Sunday morning, as the Eagles will host Case Western Reserve University at 11:00 AM.  Prior to the game, Emory will honor its six graduating senior players  - Sara Belsole, Melanie Levy, Meghan McMahon, Alyssa Perez, Emily Rubin, and Lauren Smith – as part of the 'Senior Day' ceremonies.
