Women's Tennis Earns 35th Consecutive Bid to NCAA Tournament

Women's Tennis Earns 35th Consecutive Bid to NCAA Tournament

The top-ranked Emory University women's tennis team was one of 49 programs selected to the NCAA Division III tournament as announced on NCAA.com on Monday afternoon. Emory, which has advanced to six straight championship matches including winning national titles in 2014 and 2016, will be looking to make it back to the championship match when the 2019 tournament gets underway on Friday.

The Eagles, making their Division III leading 35th-consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament, received one of the 40 automatic qualifiers after claiming its seventh consecutive and 30th overall University Athletic Association championship during the last weekend in April. The Eagles enter the field with a 17-3 overall record including a 14-1 record against Division III opponents.

The Eagles act as hosts to the NCAA opening rounds for the first time since 2014 and will oppose the winner of Friday's first-round match between North Carolina Wesleyan (15-4) and Hanover (12-0) on Saturday, May 11th, at the Woodruff PE Center. On the other side of the draw, 23rd-ranked Washington & Lee University (15-7) will face off against 30th-ranked Sewanee (21-6).

The two Saturday winners will square off on Sunday, May 12th with a bid to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals on the line. The 2019 NCAA Division III Quarterfinals are slated to begin on May 20th in Kalamazoo, MI.

Please be sure to check emoryathletics.com later this week for match times as well as individual selections to the NCAA Division III Championships that will be announced on NCAA.com on Wednesday, May 8th.
