Emory University sophomore Melissa Goodman was a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles matches during a West Coast trip last week for the second-ranked Eagles. Each of Goodman’s matches, played at fourth singles and second doubles with junior Beatrice Rosen, came against nationally-ranked opponents. In a 7-2 win against eighth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Monday, she won her doubles match 8-3 and her singles contest 7-5, 6-1. On Wednesday against Azusa Pacific University, ranked 17th in Division II, she pulled out victories of 8-6 in doubles and 6-2, 6-1 in singles, helping Emory to another 7-2 win. Goodman added a 6-0, 6-3 singles win and an 8-3 doubles triumph on Thursday in a 6-3 team victory over sixth-ranked Bowdoin College. She capped off her week by leading Emory to a 5-4 win at fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges with wins of 8-5 in doubles and 6-3, 6-3 in singles. Goodman is now 7-3 in singles matches and 12-3 in doubles contests this season, helping Emory improve to 9-2 overall.
