#4 Emory Women’s Tennis Opens UAA Tournament with 5-0 Win over NYU

The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked fourth in Division III, advanced to the semifinals of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament with a 5-0 win over New York University on Friday.

The fact that the match was moved indoors and delayed an hour and a half due to bad weather did not deter the Eagles, who swept through the doubles match to take an early 3-0 lead.  Getting wins for Emory were Lorne McManigle and Zahra Dawson in the first doubles contest, Tshema Nash and Sabra Rogers in the second doubles match, and Sara Vrabec and Jordan Wylie in third doubles.

Playing only until victory due to time constraints, the Eagles quickly picked up wins in their first two singles matches to earn a team victory.  Emory's Zahra Dawson earned a win in the first singles match, while senior Tshema Nash claimed victory in the second.  None of the other singles matches were completed.

With the win, Emory improved to 16-4 this season.  The Violets dropped to 3-8 on the year with the loss.

Emory will continue its quest for its 23rd-consecutive UAA Championship tomorrow, facing the winner of today’s match between fourth-seeded Washington University (ranked 14th in the nation) and the fifth-seeded University of Rochester at 12:30 PM on Saturday.
