#4 Emory Women’s Tennis Defeats Berry 7-2

The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked fourth in the nation, handed Berry College its first loss of the season with a 7-2 victory over the Lady Vikings on Saturday.

The Eagles took two of the three doubles matches, getting an 8-3 win from seniors Tshema Nash and Sabra Rogers in the second doubles match, and an 8-6 win from freshman Jordan Wylie and senior Sara Vrabec in the third doubles match.  Despite an 8-5 loss in the first doubles match from junior Lorne McManigle and sophomore Zahra Dawson, the Eagles would head into singles play leading 2-1.

Nash and Rogers improved to 12-4 in doubles matches together this season, while Vrabec and Wylie earned the victory in their first doubles match together this year.

In the singles matches, despite suffering an early 6-2, 6-0 loss from McManigle in the first singles match, the Eagles would recover to sweep all of the remaining contests.  Dawson won 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the second-singles contest and Wylie earned a straight-set 6-0, 6-4 win in the third singles match.  After Nash earned a 6-2, 7-5 win in the fourth singles match, the Eagles picked up a pair of come-from-behind three-set victories from junior Lindsay Reidenbach in fifth singles (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Vrabec in sixth singles (1-6, 6-2, 6-3).

Vrabec raised her record in singles play to 17-1 overall this season, including a perfect 16-0 during Emory’s spring dual matches.  McManigle now stands at 13-10, Dawson at 15-7, Wylie at 17-4, Nash at 19-2 and Reidenbach at 16-5 this year.

The win brings Emory's record to 15-4 this season, while Berry dropped to 13-1 with the loss.  Emory will return to action on Monday, hosting Division I Mercer College at 3:00 PM.
