Emory Golf Finishes First At Jekyll Island Invitational

The No. 1-ranked Emory University golf came through with a solid Sunday round and in the process captured first-place honors out of 30 team at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.   The 54-hole tourney was played at the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

The Eagles posted a team score of two-under par 288 to finish at 858 (289-283-286), three shots better than runner-up Huntingdon College (290-285-286—861).  Illinois Wesleyan wound up third at 864 (288-287-289) while Oglethorpe (866) and Methodist (868) rounded out the top five.

Freshman Logan Ryan spearheaded the Eagles' contingent on the final day of play, firing a three-under par 69.  Ryan finished his round with a flourish, recording birdies on the final five holes. Senior Connor Yakubov and junior Matt Organisak each fired one-under par 71s while Eric Yiu closed out the team's scorers with a 75.  Sam Galloway checked in at 76.

For the tournament,  Ryan ranked first and the team and tied for fourth out of 150 players with a five-under score of 211 (73-69-69).  Yakubov tied for sixth on the leader board with a four-under 212 (74-67-71) while Organisak tied for the No. 12 position after shooting one-under 215 (70-74-71).   Yiu (220) and Galloway tied for the Nos 33rd and 62nd spots, respectively.  By virtue of their finishes, Ryan and Yakubov brought home all-tournament recognition.

Stephen Shephard of Huntingdon (69-6966—214)) played his way to medalist honors, four shots better than teammate Drew Mathers.

Emory returns to action, Apr. 1-2, at the Huntingdon College Spring Invitational in Montgomery, Alabama.
