Emory Golf First After Two Rounds At Jekyll Island

The No. 1-ranked Emory University golf team completed its second round of action at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.   The 54-hole tourney is being played at the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

The Eagles stand in first place out of 30 teams with a 36-hole effort of four-under par 572.  Illinois Wesleyan and Huntingdon College are deadlocked for second at 575 while Oglethorpe is fourth at 580.

Emory fired a field-leading score of five under 283 and was led by senior Connor Yakubov, whose career-best tying outing 67 featured seven birdies on the day. Freshman Logan Ryan carded a solid three-under 69 while Eric Yiu and Matt Organisak rounded out the squad's scorers with marks of 73 and 74, respectively. Sam Galloway closed out his round with a 76.

Through two days of competition, Yakubov paces the Emory contingent and is tied for fifth place in the 150-player field with a three-under performance of 141 (74-67).  Ryan finds himself among the top 10 overall performers thus far with his two-under par 142 (73-69) tying for ninth.  Organisak is 22nd on the leader board at even-par 144 (70-74).   Yiu is tied for 28th (72-73—145) and Galloway for 64th (74-76—150).

Drew Mathers of Huntingdon claims the No. 1 position with a seven-under par 137 (69-68) while teammate Stephen Shephard (69-69) and Mariano Silvestri of North Carolina Wesleyan (68-70) are one shot behind.

The final round will be held on Sunday.
