Emory Baseball Falls to #14 Birmingham-Southern on the Road

The Emory University Baseball team fell to 14th-ranked Birmingham-Southern College, 3-0, on the road Tuesday night in Birmingham, Alabama. BSC improved to 5-3 with the victory while the Eagles dropped to 4-6 overall.

The Panthers saw pitchers Tristian Harvin, Josh Galloway and Richie Misischia combine for the three-hitter on the evening. Harvin earned the win, tossing five scoreless innings to go along with six strikeouts. He allowed all three hits and walked just one. After junior Thomas Baumgartner reached on an error to lead off the fifth, BSC retired the final 15 Emory batters that stepped to the plate.

The Eagles had their largest scoring threat in the third inning as freshman Caleb Shulman, junior Jackson Grayson and senior Nick Chambers collected three straight singles with one out in the inning. However, Harvin sent down junior David Draper on strikes before retiring sophomore Richard Brereton on a ground out to escape without any damage.

Brereton suffered the loss on the mound, falling to 1-2 on the season. He kept the Panthers off the scoreboard for the first five innings before Preston Munns led off the sixth with a home run to right center. Brereton finished the outing with seven punch outs in six innings of work, giving up just the one run on five hits and three walks.

Emory looks to snap its three-game losing streak when the team returns to the diamond Friday afternoon against Adrian College. First pitch from Chappell Park is set for 2:00 PM.
