Emory University senior swimming standout, Cindy Cheng, will be featured in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated as part of the Faces in the Crowd section, slated to be published on Thursday.
Faces in the Crowd has been published in every edition of Sports Illustrated since 1956.
Cheng is being honored thanks to her performance for the Eagles at last month's Miami Invitational, where Emory finished second out of six schools. She won all three individual events she competed in and added a pair of relay wins. Cheng broke her previous school record in the 200 Backstroke (1:56.63, also was a meet record) and threw down times of 4:51.43 in the 500 Freestyle and 1:47.84 in the 200 Freestyle. All three times represented NCAA B Cuts while her 200 Freestyle & Backstroke times currently rank as the fastest in Division III so far this season and her 500 Freestyle mark places her second nationally.
In addition, Cheng participated in four relay events over the three-day meet, helping the Eagles to first place honors in the 800 Freestyle (7:21.08) and 400 Freestyle (3:22.68), a second place finish in the 200 Medley (1:42.40) and third in the 400 Medley (3:45.62). All four times were NCAA B Cuts.
Cheng and the Eagles return to the pool on Friday, January 12th with a dual meet at Florida Southern in Lakeland, FL.
