Senior Andrew Wilson and sophomore Fiona Muir of the Emory University Swimming and Diving teams were chosen as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week as announced on Monday afternoon. This is Wilson's third conference weekly honor of the season and 12th of his career while this is Muir's second of the season and third career honor.
Wilson recorded Emory's lone individual event victory on Saturday afternoon against the University of Georgia, claiming the 100 Breast with a NCAA 'B' Cut time of 54.41. Wilson added another NCAA 'B' Cut in the 200 Breast, finishing second and just .41 seconds behind first, at 2:00.64.
Muir turned in two individual NCAA 'B' Cuts of her own and added one more in the 200 Free Relay as the Eagles fell to the defending NCAA Division I national champions Georgia on Saturday afternoon. Muir touched second in the 100 Free at 51.43 and was third in 50 Free at 23.73. In the 200 Free Relay, Muir along with classmate Meg Taylor and seniors Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe and Marissa Bergh came in second with a NCAA qualifying mark of 1:35.18.
Emory will be back in the pool next week at the UAA Championships which will take place from February 8th through the 11th at the University of Chicago in Chicago, IL. The Emory women's team will be searching for its 19th consecutive conference team title and 25th overall with the men's squad also looking for its 19th straight championship.
